In 1986, John independently purchased a single oil truck and began the company known as Country Oil Inc. serving Western
Massachusetts, Southern Vermont, and Southern New Hampshire. In 1989, John's Father Normand and Uncle Leo, passed
the family business known as People's Fuel and Trucking Inc. onto the third generation of owners. John Cormier, son of
Normand, Nancy Begin, daughter of Leo, and Robert LeBlanc, son-in-law of Leo. Country Oil merged with People's Fuel
and Trucking Inc. in 1989 at the time of Normand's retirement, and in 1999 John left People's Fuel and Trucking Inc. to
pursue Country Oil on a full-time basis. In 1995, Country Oil added a plumbing department to increase the line of services
they were able to offer their customers. Country Oil has grown to be one of the largest heating oil distributors in Franklin
County.
After 21 years of business in the Greater Franklin County area and years of service here in the local Gardner area, John has
decided to return to his roots with his two Son-In-Laws - Sommay Sayarath, married to daughter Lynn, and Daniel Rameau,
married to daughter Amy. In January 2008, John officially retired and passed the family business onto Sommay and Daniel
Sr. With three grandsons in the fold - Country Fuel is sure to foster a fifth generation of local oil entrepreneurs.
Lenny Lucier, a local native, has joined Country Fuel Inc. For the last 13 years, Lenny Lucier, has owned and operated
Lenny’s Heating, where he provided 24 hour service, maintenance, boiler/furnace replacements, and installations of all kinds
including radiant heat. He has lived in the Greater Gardner area his entire life, and worked locally for several different heating
companies from 1970-1995, including 16 years as a Service Manager. Lenny brings his crew of Paul Couture, and Ronnie
Cherichetti, as they join Country Fuel in providing heating service to the area.
We look forward to serving you!
While Country Fuel is just beginning its existence as a
heating and plumbing company serving North Central
Massachusetts, it is deeply rooted in the local
community.
Local businessman John J. Cormier, was born and
raised in Gardner. At the young age of 14 he began
working for his Grandfather Alyre Cormier and Great
Uncle Alfred Cormier in the business they founded in
1924 - People's Ice and Coal Company. John learned
different facets of the business throughout his life and
continued to work for the family owned business when
his Father, Normand Cormier, and his Uncle, Leo
Cormier, assumed ownership of the company - then
called People's Fuel and Trucking Inc.
